A CELEBRATION OF OUR DIVERSITY
WE ARE SARASOTA is the compelling story of Sarasota's growing diversity as told through Courtroom drama, multi media, song and dance. With the combined talents of the Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe, Booker High School students, Manatee Educational Television and the Sarasota County Bar Association's Diversity Committee, this family friendly lesson in legal history will be both informative and wildly entertaining. It will take you on a journey from the heartwrenching segregated Sarasota in the 1950's to the current vibrant and diverse community that it is today. You will be inspired to continue the effort to make our community one that is truly representative of all the people who call this place our home. And, you will leave, singing, stomping your feet and wanting for more!

DONATIONS: If you are unable to attend, please make a donation. Your donation will enable us to bring high school students to this amazing event!
We will be going to 10 area high schools to teach legal history to selected classes prior to the performance. We intend to bring 500 of these 11th graders to the performance. We will provide them with FREE tickets, FREE school bus transportation & if we raise enough funds, we will provide them with a FREE boxed meal.
Funds raised from this event will allow the partnering organizations to do their good work. The SCBA Diversity Committee will continue to provide scholarships to minority law school students & education outreach to our area's high schools. WBTT will be able to continue to offer performances that reflect the rich history of African Americans and will help fund their envisioned education outreach program. Booker High School will be able to meet the many needs of their highly respected VPA program and get them closer to bringing back their Law Academy.
